While I am always on the hunt for the “perfect” foundation, my belief is that the foundation must satisfy several criteria. The foundation has to be…
- Covers well
- Has staying power
- Doesn’t break me out
- Has a range of shades that would be suitable for darker skin tones
Okay I can go on and on about what I expect from a foundation, but let’s just say I expect my foundation to be worth its weight in gold. So once I saw the foundation from L’Oreal I thought I would give it a try. I have had good luck with L’Oreal’s true match makeup in the past; I figured I would check out L’Oreal’s new formula called True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup. Who doesn’t want luminous skin?
Now, in the past I have not been a fan of drugstore foundation, although when it comes to other beauty items, I have found that most drugstore items are comparable to any mid to high-end beauty product. My personal feeling when it comes to foundation is you cannot get the same outcome as you would if you purchase a mid to high-end foundation. Also, I am in love with the Dior Nudeskin foundation (and several other high end foundations); however, these foundations are expensive and I am trying to watch the pennies. With that I need to find a foundation that I can use every day and will not hurt the pockets.

- Applies smoothly with a foundation brush
- Comes in a pump
- Feels light on the skin
- Doesn’t last through the day
- Limited range of colors that would complement darker skin tones
- Oxidizes fast
I will begin by saying the foundation applies well, it is smooth and creamy and goes on like a dream, and it provides a natural look. In my experience it applies better with a foundation brush than if you used a beauty blender sponge. However, in my humble opinion this is not a summer foundation, while it is light on the skin; it melts away fast on a hot and humid day.
The color range is very limited for a woman of color. I had to purchase the C6 and C7/C8 and mix the shades to get a tint that would blend with my skin tone.
In order to work with the foundation; in hopes to make it last a little longer, I found that you HAVE TO set it with a powder as over the day it will look shiny (very shiny) and shiny is not “Luminous”. While this foundation goes on like a dream it does not last through the day. After a few hours it just does not look good on my skin. It makes my skin pretty oily and it oxidizes fast. When you first apply it to moisturized skin you think (or at least I thought) it was very beautiful. Then you get in the sun and within a few hours it becomes really dark and it seems to melt down to the lower part of my face. I just wanted to go into the bathroom and wash it off. Side note, if you add powder to try and fix it. I think it angers it because it just gets worse J
In addition, I made the mistake of applying it over a moisturizer that was SPF15 and it gave me a weird shine down on the bottom part of my face where it all seem to melt to after a few hours.
Now I applied the foundation with a primer and without a primer. With powder and without powder, either way after a few hours it did not look the same as when I first applied the foundation. Basically, this is not a foundation I would purchase again. I just had to jump through too many of the foundation hoops to get the foundation to work for only a few hours.
